] The Australian Keyboard Academy is committed to Excellence, Knowledge, Creativity, Opportunity, and Innovation (EKCOI™) in music education. The EKCOI™ philosophy is innovative and sets new boundaries to piano-keyboard education. The core aim of the EKCOI™ philosophy is to promote and encourage creativity in music. We understand and acknowledge that each student have different learning needs and that a one size-fits-all syllabus is restrictive. According to Pascoe et al, "choices of music repertoire in syllabi can be inflexible and narrow not reflecting the diversity, complexity and richness of Australian culture and society" (2005:43). The EKCOI™ philosophy provides a framework approach and the capacity for teachers to develop syllabi and curriculums that focus specifically on individual student learning and interests. Important to the EKCOI™ philosophy is to engage all students, regardless of their musical ability to learn and create music. In addition to our comprehensive keyboard program, students also study music theory, composition, improvisation, solfège, ear-training, musicianship skills, and music technology. All students are encouraged to participate in concerts, external music examinations, and competitions. The Australian Keyboard Academy is committed to developing networks within the community and mainstream schools, to encouraged and provide students with opportunities to perform with other musicians and singers. Resources and Professional Development is available for teachers interested in implementing the EKCOI™ philosophy as part of their teaching practice.
